Having started my doula journey over a year ago, many of my friends and family have been intrigued (and sometimes confused) about what it was all about. ‘No offence Hannah, but why would someone want you at their birth? Isn’t birth a private, special time for a couple?’ or ‘Oh right, for women who don’t have a partner?’… After a while of explaining, I felt people either got it, or they didn’t. Fortunately there is a whole stack of research that clearly demonstrates the benefits of having a doula at a birth, and I know why I’m doing it. I’ve found my element (thank you Ken Robinson).
I found this article which I feel really sums up what a doula does, and why a woman or couple should hire a doula. So, if you are still pondering hiring a doula, or you’d like to find a bit more out about what we do, have a read… http://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/846147/5-reasons-to-hire-a-birth-doula
