I recently decided to get fit so I’ve just been for a swim, managed 30 mins of a combination of breaststroke and backstroke and now my body is feeling the result, I’m kind of enjoying the way my arms and legs are feeling. It’s a lightness and slight jelly-like feeling, a point between exhaustion and exuberance. It made me reflect on the physical endurance that is needed during labour and birth, and also how being submerged in water can help a woman to relax and go with the flow. Doing exercise when you are pregnant, if you are not used to it, can be a very daunting idea, but it might just be worth trying. Not only will exercise help a woman to carry the extra weight gained during pregnancy, it can help to prepare her for the physical demands of labour and birth and make her feel more positive in general.
